Liguria: travel guides

Camping sites and holiday villages in Liguria

Due to the conformation of its territory, Liguria is a region in which camping sites and holiday villages have always been popular. Located in North-Western Italy, on the border with France, Liguria offers tourists the choice between spending their holidays on the beach, on the mountains or exploring fascinating cities such as the capital of the region, Genoa. Cinque Terre, a string of enchanting centuries-old seaside villages, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, certainly deserve a special mention.

Holidays on the beach in Liguria

The sea is no doubt one of the main reasons why tourists choose Liguria for their summer holidays. Washed by the Ligurian Sea and the Gulf of Genoa, the Ligurian Riviera goes from the border with France to Capo Corvo, in the province of La Spezia, and is divided into Riviera di Levante and Riviera di Ponente. The coast features sandy stretches interrupted by rocky areas with charming small bays, ideal for anyone looking for a holiday that combines the beauty of sea and nature. Some coastal villages are built in coves or perched on cliff tops, offering amazing views of the sea. Manarola, in the Cinque Terre area, is one of them; its spectacular colours are as beautiful as the landscape around it. Manarola, together with Corniglia, Riomaggiore, Vernazza and Monterosso, are part of Cinque Terre: the area has plenty of camping sites and in addition to the typical en plein air accommodation, they offer opportunities to explore the region with guided tours, often at privileged prices.

Discovering Genoa

Genoa, the capital city of the region, is an unmissable stop when visiting Liguria. A port city with an historic centre characterised by narrow roads, known as caruggi, Genoa dazzles tourists with its old and modern character, where old buildings and architecture meet popular night club.
