Murcia: travel guides

Murcia, sun and beaches all year round

Murcia is an autonomous community in south-eastern Spain which draws its name from its capital city. Among the main characteristics of this region, which faces the Mediterranean Sea across from the African coast, are the all-year-round warm climate and numerous beaches that make this an ideal destination for holidays by the sea. Besides the beach resorts, where there is certainly no shortage of campsites and holiday parks, you can discover landscapes of great charm and cities rich in history, where you will find evidence of the different cultures that have inhabited these places, such as the capital Murcia and Cartagena.

Águilas and Mazarrón

Águilas is a beautiful seaside town on the Costa Cálida, or Warm Coast, with around 35 beaches and monuments, gardens and fascinating archaeological sites, such as the Roman baths. There are numerous campsites and holiday parks, ideal for those seeking a relaxing beach holiday or an active week of scuba diving, water sports and hiking not far from the coast. Also renowned for its Carnival celebrations, Águilas has a marvelous coastline, with beaches and coves such as La Higuerica, La Carolina or Calabardina and the neighbourhood of Las Delicias. Worth a visit is also the islet of Fraile. So too the town of Mazarrón, with its many campsites close to the beaches, where you can add to your enjoyment of Murcia’s crystal clear sea the discovery of the art and nature of the territory, from Greda, the Archaeological Museum of Mazarrón, to the nearby baroque town of Lorca and the nature parks of the Sierra Espuña mountain range.

Cartagena, sea and history

The city of Cartagena is among the must-see destinations in Murcia, as it expresses the close relationship of this region with the sea. In addition to the shores of the Mar Menor, its charming coastal lagoon, the city has a beautiful marina and a fascinating old town, bordered by the so-called Mura del Mar, or Sea Wall. Despite the diverse peoples that have settled in these lands over the centuries, Cartagena still has many remains from Roman times, from colonnades to villas, baths and a forum. Among the other attractions in Cartagena, it is worth mentioning the Castle of the Conception in Park Torres, the rich local cuisine and the locality of Isla Plana.
