Navarre: travel guides

Camping in Navarre: pure nature
In the north of Spain, between the Pyrenees mountains and the Basque Country, the autonomous community of Navarre is a paradise for nature holidays, with many attractions that make it the perfect destination for those who love camping. It is, indeed, a region rich in greenery, which has a pleasant climate, is not far from the Cantabrian Sea and has deep-rooted traditions, in some cases coinciding with those of the Basque Country. The capital Pamplona, or Iruñea in Basque, is the perfect example, as it is immensely rich in history and folklore, surrounded by greenery and famous throughout the world for its ‘Encierro’, or running in front of bulls, part of its San Fermín festivities in July.

Sports activities in a unique territory

The range of activities on offer in Navarre is extraordinarily wide, enough to suit all needs and tastes. Sports enthusiasts can choose from ordinary options such as hiking and cycling or other various forms of adventure sports such as rafting, canoeing, hydrospeeding and zip-lining. The Errobi and Bidasoa rivers have perfect stretches for these types of water activities.Mountaineering enthusiasts, on the other hand, can enjoy privileged views and abseiling descents in the spectacular Sierra de Goñi mountain range.

Lots to discover

Besides offering an unequalled natural environment, Navarre has a singular artistic heritage that will surprise even the most discerning travellers. Tudela, Olite and Pamplona have magnificent Romanesque treasures, including the cathedral of Tudela, and there are various gems to discover such as the walled town of Cirauqui. To be noted is also the beauty of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route through this region, with renowned stops for pilgrims such as Roncesvalles and Estella. Beach lovers can also reach the beautiful seaside town of San Sebastian, in the Basque country, just 40 minutes from camping areas such as the Sierra de Aralar en Lekunberri.
